Redlands Star Search presented by Redlands Sunrise Rotary

Terms and Conditions for Auditions and Performance

Purpose

The purpose of Redlands Star Search (the “Event”) presented by Redlands Sunrise Rotary (the “Organizer”) is to raise funds to support the many local and global projects served by the Redlands Sunrise Rotary Foundation while showcasing with appreciation and enthusiasm talented individuals in our community in a fun, social and highly entertaining competition.

Philosophy

Consistent with the Objectives of Rotary, although the Event is a competition, it will be conducted in a friendly and supportive environment where the common goal is to create a special evening of camaraderie and intimacy for performers and audience alike.

Rules

We try to remain flexible and if we find something that’s not working we will look into changing it. If a question comes up and there is no written rule for it, the guideline we use is Rotary’s Four Way Test:

  1. Is it the truth;
  2. Is it beneficial to all concerned;
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships;
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned.

Based upon these principles, determinations of the judges and Event staff are deemed final.

Auditions

All groups must audition in order to compete.  Audition applications must be submitted online through www.redlandsstarsearch.com/auditions.

Fees

There is currently no cost to submit an audition entry.  The Organizer reserves the right to introduce an application fee in the future.

Selection for performance

An audition committee will review all submissions and invite acts to participate in the Event based on talent, stage presence, and the objective to build a diverse and entertaining program.  At most ten acts will be selected.  All submission contestants will be notified of the results about three weeks before the Event.

Dress Rehearsal

Selected acts will be required to participate in a dress rehearsal in the days leading up to the Event.  More information will be provided to the selected acts.

Time Limit

During the performance each act will be given up to three minutes to perform.  Timing begins when a contestant starts performing, and ends at conclusion of act.  (Applause not included in timing.)   Performers stand to lose up to 50% of their overall scores by going over time. This keeps the show to a reasonable length and keeps the competition fair to all groups.

Order of Appearance

The order is determined by the Event Director and announced to the acts prior to the Event.  We schedule the groups carefully to handle logistics required for different acts, and to avoid having similar groups go on stage back-to-back.

Judges

A panel of three or more local, volunteer “celebrities” will judge performances.  Their determinations will be considered final.

Judging

Performers are judged on entertainment value, originality & creativity, audience appeal, and skill.  Judges are encouraged to jot down notes that will help improve the performance and to give an overall score to assist in the final placement, as opposed to scoring every little thing a performer does or does not do.

Stage Support

We will make every effort to support requests for stage props, lighting, or special effects, constrained by what is doable with the few minutes between acts.  If a performer wants to use special light or sound techniques, the guidelines are that it may be used only if performer can quickly assemble and disassemble equipment (alone or with an assistant) in a quick, quiet and efficient manner.  Any such effects must be identified to Event staff well in advance of the Event.  Please notify Event staff well in advance of performance date to get approval and make necessary arrangements.

Licensing/Images

As consideration for performer’s participation in the event, performer grants Organizer and its affiliates rights to use performers likeness, photos, videos, audio for all legitimate club purposes and to promote the Event this year and in the future.
